“Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” ~Bob Talbert
Becoming a teacher is one of the best things that ever happened to me. As I look back through my life, I have always loved working with children, even when I was still a child myself. So by the time I got to high school I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. This led me to pursue my bachelor’s degree at Northwest University, a private Christian college in Kirkland, WA and in 2007 I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. The very next year I was hired by the Arlington School District to teach 1st grade at Eagle Creek Elementary. Since that time I have taught a 3rd/4th grade split, 5th grade, and K-5 math. In 2011, I earned my Master’s degree.
Now I teach 1st grade again and absolutely love it! The hugs and smiles I receive from my students each day make everything worthwhile. Sometimes I wonder how it is that I get paid to do something I love so much. What a truly wonderful thing teaching is!
Outside of school I enjoy cooking, reading anything by C.S. Lewis or Dr. Seuss (and maybe a few other authors thrown in there, as well), traveling, volunteering at my church, and spending time with family and friends.
